Good times boost confidence and bad times build Character!

Good times boost confidence and bad times build Character!

power story by Mohit Kanade (https://www.linkedin.com/in/mohitkanade/)

Life is a continuous learning experience.

In recent years I have noticed one incredible fact of life. Things don’t always go according to plan. We can make the best plan, use every hope and prayer we have, take our best shot, and still everything can go wrong. When that happens, it’s almost like we never had a plan at all. What a misery! That’s when we start to get furious and sometimes the people around us start to get desperate. We start to blame ourselves, sometimes others, and sometimes the situation around us. Sometimes those few important decisions we make in our lives are accidental appointments with disappointment. We start doubting our own vision and decisions because others start doubting us without understanding our intentions. But we need to stand for our genuine intentions: if we don’t stand for something, we fall for everything. It is absolutely important to ensure we do not create our reality based on other people’s opinions.  Sometimes it is better to be at peace than to be right, especially when we have to deal with our near and dear ones.

I was broke and broken.

We all have problems. Surprisingly enough – no one is spared from problems. In fact, every human being on this planet has some problems. Sometimes we don’t have solutions but it doesn’t mean that we ought to give up so easily.  At one point, I stopped complaining and started taking responsibility for my own behaviour and actions.  Life asked me to choose one from two options – accept things as they are or accept the responsibility to change them. Very often, I chose the second option. And a situation deteriorated. I had to pay a cost because the situation had forced me to keep a few things at risk. Sometimes it was money, sometimes it was relationship, and sometimes it was even my health. I felt several times that I was broke and broken. I was absolutely shattered and gutted a plethora of times. At one point, I almost lost everything except hope. I always remember Red and Andy Dufresne from the movie ‘The Shawshank Redemption.’  Red says “Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.”  Whereas Andy Dufresne says “Hope is a good thing. Maybe even the best of things and good things never die.” I vouch for the latter because if nothing is certain, then surely everything is possible.

Hope, Trust, Patience, Resilience and Gratitude!

After a lot of introspection I realised that the key to surviving through such situations is to have Hope, Trust, Patience, Resilience and Gratitude! I thought that nothing was working out so I decided to work on myself. I took time for my self-development and focused on developing emotional resilience every day. Sometimes we can’t control the unpredictable things that happen to us but we can certainly decide how we respond to the events and hardships in our lives. I decided to make sure that my positive attitude remains ‘certain’ in such ‘uncertain’ situations. I learned to see something positive in every negative situation and started to believe that everything happens for a reason. Isn’t it significant to notice the ‘collateral beauty’ when sometimes we see only the ‘collateral damages?’ Gratitude evolves when our sadness meets even a slight positivity in the situation. Our emotional resilience starts strengthening when we start expressing gratitude for every single good thing in our lives. I realized that no other religion on this planet is greater than Humanity.

I told myself several times that I may not have all answers to all questions but what I definitely know is that I will survive through this situation very well and will shine again with flying colours. I am confident because I have survived through some unpleasant relationship crises, economic crises and health crises in the past also. I made sure that I learnt from those situations because I always believe that ‘we either win or we learn’. Sometimes, we just need to hang on to our self-faith and make sure that we live the best version of ourselves in times of crises. When we are good to others, we are best to ourselves!

One indeed needs a lot of courage to compete in the ‘Survival of the Fittest’ in such ill situations. I understood that “courage” is not having the strength to continue, courage means continuing when we don’t have strength.

‘Try me’ instead of ‘Why me?’

I stopped asking God, ‘Why me?’ I started to smile and said ‘Try me.’

I don’t tell myself anymore – how big my problems are.  I tell my problems how big I am!

I stopped telling others that I am dealing with problems. I started telling them that problems are dealing with me.

In the past few years, I have been experiencing massive transformation on my personal and professional front as I determined to use my personal experiences to bring positive change in other’s lives. I genuinely believe that each one of us on this earth has a unique potential and I wish to inspire people to find their potential, find their identity and live in the expression of their highest selves. I embarked on a journey to make the positive difference in people’s lives by inspiring them and getting inspired from them with the ultimate goal to make this world a better place to live! And doing so, I wish to make sure that I maintain a perfect balance among all important aspects: physical and emotional health, money, relationship and knowledge in my own life. I confirmed that my emotional and physical health is absolutely my responsibility, no one else’s.

Convenience and transformation don’t live in the same block.

When I look back, I see that every problem proved to be an opportunity and every experience made me richer in terms of emotions because I chose to learn and not to lose. I am grateful to every challenging situation and every individual that made me a better human being in this journey so far. My positive instinct always helped me to grow through challenges and not just go through challenges. I learned to accept the unexpected. I educated myself realizing the fact that convenience and transformation don’t live in the same block. I decided to stand for my values though I failed several times. Eventually, I stopped keeping count of how many times I have failed. It doesn’t matter to me now how many times I fail, what really matters is how many times I rise up again after each failure. I am making sure that I am failing forward. I am becoming fearless every day. I started to right my every wrong. I am making sure that my tears don’t blur my sight. I am becoming more thoughtful and vigilant before making any important decision. I am making sure that I will be respected by my choices and will not be judged by my circumstances.

A Change maker, an Influencer, and an Inspirational Speaker

I affirmed that I am a people’s person. I have a strong affection towards people. I love talking to them and learning from them. I believe that every human being has some uniqueness and I am always in quest of finding that uniqueness. I always seek inspirations from others and also try to inspire others. I have been collaborating with the organisations and people whose values match with my values. I started to surround myself with people and situations where I will be celebrated and not tolerated. I recognised that my relationships are my greatest assets because every single individual in my life matters to me. I am cherishing my various identities in the midst of all crises. People may know me as an Engineer, a Coach and a Consultant but at the same time I am also a Cook, a Writer, a Poet, a Teacher, a Trainer, a Change maker, an Influencer, an Inspirational Speaker, perhaps much more than all of these identities which are still unexplored. I have started feeling empowered now that I realise I can live a life full of authenticity and integrity.

What I have understood is “Good times boost confidence and bad times build Character! Where there is a will, there is a way! Don’t ever let anybody tell you that you can’t do something. You got a dream… You got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves so they will tell you that you can’t do it. If you want something, go get it. Period!”
